Core Functions and Working Principles of Clutches

The clutch is a critical component in a vehicle's drivetrain, located between the engine and transmission. Its primary function is to engage or disengage the transmission of power from the engine. When the driver depresses the clutch pedal, the release bearing pushes against the pressure plate springs, separating the friction disc from the flywheel and cutting off power transmission for smooth gear shifts or stopping. Releasing the pedal allows the pressure plate to clamp the friction disc against the flywheel, transmitting power through friction. Its operational state directly impacts the smoothness of vehicle starts, the fluidity of gear changes, and the efficiency of power delivery.
